A telecommunications tower in the middle of a low-population town doesn’t sound like the most beautiful scene, but somehow to me, it is. There have been too many times I’ve admired a sunset or sparse clouds or an incoming storm while driving down the road, the tower looming above with an ever-steady presence.

From a young age, the Coonawarra tower has symbolised to me that home is near — whether I was on the way home from school on the bus, or in the back seat of the car coming home from a road trip.

Even now, at 27 years old, seeing the tower in the distance above the vines makes me excited to be back in my hometown, visiting my parents and seeing familiar faces.
