If you talk to a farmer for long enough, you’ll work out they name their paddocks in interesting ways. Sometimes it’s after the neighbours on that side, the shape of the paddock, the direction it’s in, or the landmarks within it. This piece is of The Big Tree Paddock which features in its centre the most monstrous gum tree. This tree would have to be nearing 30 metres tall with branches sprawling in every direction.

I’ve always looked at this tree in wonder; how many hundreds of years did it take for it to grow this big? How deep and wide spread are its roots to support its towering trunk and thick branches? How much water does it need to survive? And how can a tree look so wise and knowing?
